Police reject N1m bribe from suspects linked to Lakurawa terror group

Some police officers from Kebbi State Command, have rejected a N1 million bribe offered by suspects connected to Lakurawa terrorist organization.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesman of Kebbi Command.

He said the suspects attempted to bribe officers in a bid to evade justice after being arrested for their alleged involvement with the Lakurawa bandit group, which has been tormenting communities in the region.

The police image maker commended the officers for their professionalism and commitment to upholding the law, adding that such actions reflect the core values of the Nigerian Police Force.

He assured the general public that the suspects would face the full weight of the law and reiterated the command’s dedication to combating crime and protecting lives and property in Kebbi State.

Abubakar identified the three suspects as Umaru Garba (53) of Dangandu village, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji Mamman (51) of Maimaichi village, both in Arewa Local Government Area, and Usman Muhammadu (50) of Bakaramba village in Argungu Local Government Area.

He said the suspects conspired to offer a bribe of N1,060,000 to the lead investigator, saying the bribe was intended to compromise the investigation and prosecution of a banditry case involving suspected Lakurawa terrorists operating in northern Kebbi State.

The attempted bribe occurred at the premises of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi.

According to the Command’s spokesman, the suspects were immediately arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, Abubakar stated.

Also, the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, commended the detectives for their integrity and professionalism. He urged other officers to emulate their commitment to upholding justice.

Sani reiterated the command’s resolve to intensify efforts in combating banditry and other crimes to ensure socio-economic development in Kebbi State
