Polio: WHO immunizes 1,685 children at motor parks, markets

Following the discovery of two wild Polio cases in neighboring Borno state, WHO immunized 1,685 children at Adamawa State motor parks, markets 

Following the discovery of two wild Polio cases in neighboring Borno state, the Adamawa Government on Tuesday summon emergency meeting on   containment strategy.

Mr. Abubakar Muhammad, the state Ministry of Health information officer in Yola, told news men that the purpose of the meeting was to strategise an  perfect emergency containment plans against Polio and other children killer diseases.

Muhammad said that during the meeting vital strategic plans were discussed among which include five successful rounds of immunization exercises to be conducted from August 27, to Nov 22, 2016.

“The state Task force on Immunization summons an emergency meeting following a report of Polio resurgence in  neighbouring Borno state.

“The meeting was to strategize and perfect emergency containment plans.” Muhammad said.

 He said that the purpose of the five round immunization exercises was expected to be synchronized with also neighbouring international countries that comprises Niger, Chad and Cameroon Republics.

Similarly, the Information officer confirmed that the World Health Organisation, Yola office, has fenced off Adamawa –  Borno border.

He said that the development was to checkmate the influx of the people especially children from Zero to five years from the two states in order to prevent the spread of the disease.

He said that from 10 to 15 August, 2016, a total of 1,685 children were immunized against Polio in Motor parks and Markets in all local government areas bordering Borno state.

“The WHO has immunized about 1,685 children in Motor  parks, Markets in all local government areas bordering Borno  state and other busy markets in Adamawa as part of effort to fence the border and tame the disease from spreading over,” Muhammad said.
