Pope Francis shares update on retirement plans, health status

In a historic interview with CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell, Pope Francis addressed speculation about his retirement plans and shared an update on his health status.

The 87-year-old pontiff, who has been the head of the Catholic Church since 2013, stated that he has no intention of resigning and is even considering a possible trip to the United States.

When asked about his health, Pope Francis described it as “fine” despite using a wheelchair due to knee issues.

He also mentioned that he has dealt with several health problems in the past, including the flu, intestinal surgery, and the removal of part of his lung.

The pope’s predecessor, Benedict XVI, cited declining health as a reason for his resignation in 2013, but Francis seems determined to continue his papacy despite his own health challenges.

Pope Francis has maintained a busy schedule over the past decade, traveling to over 60 countries and advocating for social justice and peace.

He has upcoming trips scheduled to the Far East, Belgium, and possibly the United States, where he may speak at the United Nations.

The pope expressed his desire to talk about peace and promote unity among nations.

The interview with Pope Francis will air on CBS at 10 p.m. ET and stream on Paramount+. This rare glimpse into the pope’s thoughts and plans has generated significant interest among Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
