It was sheer delight for the Reds on Boxing Day

Premier League table toppers Liverpool Football Club did lift their foot off the gas unlike title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea who dropped points to Everton and Fulham, respectively.

The Reds took advantage of their rivals’ stumble to move seven points clear with a resounding 3-1 win over struggling Leicester.

Chelsea’s surprise loss to Fulham and City’s draw with Everton were the needed boosters for Arne Slot’s ruthless side.

But it was Liverpool that conceded first, with Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew reacting smartly to slot the ball into the bottom left corner of Allison Becker’s post.

The Foxes endured barrage of attacks by Liverpool from the 6th minute which Ayew scored.

Crosses flying in from Liverpool fullbacks Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold but couldn’t find the towering Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool also came close with Mo Salah’s curler hitting the bar.

Leicester, perhaps thinking they would go into halftime with the lead, defended too deep, allowing Cody Gakpo enough space and time to cut in from the left and unleash a pile-driver into the net, just seconds to the end of the first half.

That was his eighth goal in his last 14 appearances.

The Netherlands international had a second goal ruled out for offside by VAR.

Other goals from Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah, with his 19th of the season, stretched Liverpool’s unbeaten run to 22 matches.

Darwin Nunez fired over Ryan Gravenberch’s cross before Jones side-footed home Mac Allister’s cross after an intricate passing move inside the penalty area involving Nunez, Salah and the Argentina international.

Leicester, who had slipped into the relegation zone after Wolves’ win over Manchester United in the days other game, now have just one win in the last 10 matches in the league.

Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has plenty of work to do, although he was not helped here by the absence of leading scorer Jamie Vardy through injury.

Leicester’s ambition remained limited but Patson Daka should have done better from a two-on-one counter attack with Mavididi but completely missed his kick with the goal looming.

Can Liverpool win the Premier League?

Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League are looking strong, with the team currently sitting at the top of the table with 42 points.

Their impressive form has seen them win 13 matches, draw 3, and lose only 1.

The team’s statistics are equally impressive, with an average of 2.33 goals scored per match and only 0.77 goals conceded.

They have also been consistent in their performances, with a streak of 37 matches undefeated.

In terms of individual performances, Mohamed Salah has been the top scorer for Liverpool, with 19 goals, followed by Luis Diaz with 13 goals, and Cody Gapko with 9 goals.

While there are still many matches to be played, Liverpool’s current form and statistics suggest that they have a strong chance of winning the Premier League title.
