President Tinubu Celebrates Former Kano Governor Ibrahim Shekarau At 70

(DDM) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, praising his lifelong dedication to education, governance, and public service in Nigeria.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu lauded Shekarau’s distinguished career trajectory, which began in the classroom before evolving into one of the most influential political journeys in Northern Nigeria.

The President described Senator Shekarau as a consummate public servant whose life embodies discipline, humility, and commitment to national development.

He recalled Shekarau’s remarkable rise through the Kano State Civil Service, where he served meritoriously and eventually attained the rank of Permanent Secretary before venturing into active politics in the early 2000s.

Tinubu particularly noted Shekarau’s historic victory in 2003 when he was elected as Governor of Kano State, defeating the incumbent in one of the most defining moments in the state’s democratic history.

During his two-term tenure from 2003 to 2011, Shekarau became widely respected for his people-oriented style of governance, earning recognition for prioritizing education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.

The President also highlighted Shekarau’s later roles at the national level, including his service as Nigeria’s Minister of Education between 2014 and 2015, and subsequently as a Senator representing Kano Central from 2019 to 2023.

Tinubu acknowledged that throughout these various capacities, Shekarau demonstrated integrity, leadership, and a deep sense of responsibility toward both his people and the Nigerian nation.

“Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s story is one of dedication and service, from the classroom to the cabinet room, from the civil service to the Senate.

His commitment to public duty remains a model for younger generations,” President Tinubu said in the statement.

He expressed gratitude to the former governor for his unwavering contributions to Nigeria’s growth as an educator, administrator, and statesman.

President Tinubu prayed that Allah grants Shekarau long life, good health, and renewed strength to continue serving his community and the country at large.
