President Tinubu launches Climate Action Committee

In a significant move to combat climate change and promote sustainable development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions.
The committee, chaired by the President himself, brings together a diverse group of experts from various government agencies, ministries, and organizations to drive the implementation of the administration’s climate and green economic initiatives.
The 25-member committee includes:
– Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Minister of Environment, as Vice-Chairman
– Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, as Secretary and Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action
– CEOs of InfraCorp, NCCC, ICRC, NIPC, NSIA, NAGGW, ECN, REA, CrediCorp, NASENI, and SMDF
– Representatives from the Federal Ministries of FCT, Finance, Power, Industry, Trade & Investment, Water Resources, Agriculture & Food Security, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
The Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions is tasked with:
– Identifying and implementing innovative climate action initiatives
– Coordinating activities across relevant federal institutions
– Collaborating with government and non-government entities
– Monitoring progress and preparing regular updates on the government’s green ambitions achievements.
President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to achieving Nigeria’s green economy objectives and unlocking new investments in the critical sector of climate action. “We are dedicated to addressing the challenges of climate change and promoting sustainable development for the benefit of all Nigerians,” he said.
The committee is expected to convene its first meeting soon to discuss its work plan and priorities. The inauguration of the committee marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
