Protest breaks out in Kano over proposed military force in Niger

Residents of Kano have taken to the streets to protest against the proposed use of force by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) to resolve the crisis that followed the coup d’état in Niger Republic.

The protesters displayed Nigeria and Niger’s flags and chanted anti-war slogans in the ancient city of Kano such as:

  • “Nigeriens are our brothers”
  • “Nigeriens are our family”
  • “Niger is ours”
  • “We don’t want war”
  • “War against Niger is injustice, a plot by the western forces”, et al.

It could be recalled that ECOWAS, on Thursday, directed military forces of the member States to be on standby for restoration of democratic rule in the West African nation.
