Following the alleged shooting of it’s chairman, Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle in police custody, aggrieved members of the Osun State Transport Management System (OSTMS) in Osogbo are protesting over the incident.
Nurudeen was reportedly shot by operatives of the Osun police command anti-Kidnapping squad on Monday night.
NewsBand understand that OSTMS chairman was arrested by the police on Monday night for being in possession of a police pistol and ammunition.
At the time of filing this report, the expressway at Aregbe Park has been blocked by the protesters, disrupting free flow of traffic.
This medium gathered that workers and students were stranded in the morning following the situation, as no vehicle was available to convey them to their various destinations.
On Tuesday, the Osun State Park Management System (OSTMS), accused police in the state of shooting Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle in their custody.
Mr Mukaila Popoola, the OSTMS State Secretary, in a statement said that Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle was shot under unclear circumstances while in detention
The organization expressed shock and concern over the development, urging the authorities to conduct a holistic investigation into the incident.
“We demand transparency and accountability in uncovering the events that led to this unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
The details surrounding the shooting remain uncertain, raising serious questions about the safety and security of individuals in police custody.
The OSTMS also called for justice and urged the relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
“Our chairman was shot in police custody under circumstances that call for thorough investigations,” the statement read.
The OSTMS urged its members to remain calm and refrain from any retaliatory actions.
“We call on our members not to take laws into their hands. We must maintain peace across the parks while we take the matter up with the appropriate authorities,” Popoola added.
Osun state police command is yet to issue a statement in respect to the development.
