President Bola Tinubu met with Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leaders at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday night to discuss the planned nationwide protest over workers’ welfare and economic issues.
The meeting aimed to address growing tensions between the Federal Government and labour unions.
Attendees included NLC President Joe Ajaero, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, and Minister of State for Labour Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
The NLC had threatened mass protests nationwide, citing unaddressed demands, including relief measures for economic reforms, wage concerns, and socio-economic hardships.
Labour accused the government of delaying agreement implementations, warning of potential industrial unrest.
No details of the discussions or outcome have been released yet.
The NLC will review the president’s submissions and decide on the protest’s future.
