PSG Reject Manchester City Offers for Super Falcons Star Jennifer Echegini

Paris Saint-Germain have made their position clear on the future of Nigeria international Jennifer Echegini, rejecting several approaches from Manchester City for the talented midfielder.

The French giants are unwilling to part with Echegini despite Manchester City’s determination to bring the 25-year-old back to English football before the close of the Women’s Super League transfer window.

According to reports, City have made multiple offers for the Super Falcons star, but PSG have turned down the approaches because they regard Echegini as an important member of their squad. The French club’s decision is particularly significant given that the Nigerian has only one year remaining on her current contract.

Manchester City’s interest comes as the English champions look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Women’s Super League campaign. The club reportedly identified Echegini as a player capable of adding creativity, technical quality and attacking threat to their midfield.

However, PSG have shown little interest in allowing one of their key players to leave at this stage of the transfer window. With the deadline approaching, City face a difficult task if they are to convince the French side to reconsider their position.

Echegini has developed into one of Nigeria’s most exciting midfielders since beginning her professional career in Europe. She spent much of her youth career in England before moving to the United States for her college football career.

Her performances at Florida State University helped establish her reputation as a dangerous attacking midfielder. She played a major role in Florida State’s NCAA championship success and was subsequently recognised with the prestigious Hermann Trophy.

The Nigerian then began her professional career with Italian giants Juventus in 2024. Her time in Turin was short but productive, with Echegini making a strong impression before securing a move to Paris Saint-Germain later that year.

Since joining PSG, she has continued to develop her game in one of Europe’s most competitive women’s football environments. Her versatility, movement and ability to contribute in the final third have made her an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen their attacking midfield positions.

Her performances for Nigeria have also enhanced her reputation.

Echegini was part of the Super Falcons squad that won the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria extended their record as the most successful nation in the competition. She was particularly influential during the tournament and scored the winning goal in the final against Morocco as Nigeria secured another continental title.

That success further increased interest in the midfielder and highlighted her growing importance to the national team.

Manchester City’s pursuit of Echegini also comes at a time when the club is dealing with an injury setback involving experienced midfielder and forward Vivianne Miedema. City are therefore keen to add further quality to their squad as they prepare for another demanding domestic and European campaign.

Echegini’s contract situation could make the transfer particularly interesting. With only a year left on her PSG deal, there is a possibility that clubs could see the current window as an opportunity to sign her before she potentially enters the final stages of her contract.

PSG, however, appear willing to take that risk because of the player’s importance to their plans.

The French club’s stance also demonstrates how highly they rate the Nigerian midfielder. Rather than accepting an offer for a player approaching the final year of her contract, PSG have chosen to retain her and continue building their team around players they believe can deliver success.

For Echegini, the situation represents another indication of how far her career has progressed. A player who began her football journey in England is now attracting serious interest from one of the country’s biggest women’s clubs while being regarded as too valuable to sell by a leading European side.

With the transfer deadline approaching, attention will now turn to whether Manchester City are prepared to return with an improved offer or whether PSG will succeed in keeping the Super Falcons star in Paris.

For now, the message from the French champions is straightforward: Jennifer Echegini is not for sale.

And with PSG determined to keep the Nigerian international, Manchester City may have to look elsewhere for reinforcement unless the French club changes its position before the window closes.
