French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have officially announced the signing of Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade.
The Nigerian star, who captained her country to glory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), joins on a two-year contract after leaving Atlético de Madrid at the end of last season.
The 24-year-old attacker expressed her excitement after completing the move, describing it as a major milestone in her career.
“I’m deeply honoured to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, a top-drawer club in Europe.
This is a major step for me, and I’m committed to giving my all to help PSG win titles and to inspire young footballers, be they in Nigeria or elsewhere,” Ajibade said.
Her arrival adds more firepower to the PSG women’s squad as they look to reclaim the Ligue 1 Féminine title, which they last lifted in 2021.
She will also link up with fellow Nigerian international Jennifer Echegini, giving Parisiennes fans plenty to cheer about in the coming season.
Ajibade has built a strong reputation as one of Africa’s finest footballers. At the 2024 WAFCON, she stood out as Nigeria’s driving force, leading the Super Falcons to their record 10th continental crown.
Her impressive performances, including one goal and two assists, earned her the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.
Before her move to France, Ajibade enjoyed success in Spain with Atlético de Madrid, where she developed her attacking flair and leadership on the field.
Now, with her move to Paris, she will be aiming to add more silverware to her career while raising Nigeria’s profile in European women’s football.
With PSG’s determination to dominate again in France and Europe, Ajibade’s signing could prove vital in the club’s ambition to compete with rivals such as Lyon and Barcelona.
