(DDM) – Gianluca Prestianni of SL Benfica has denied allegations of racial abuse made against him by Vinícius Júnior, insisting that he was sanctioned without sufficient evidence.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learned that the controversy stems from an incident reported during a European competition, which led to disciplinary action by UEFA.

Prestianni maintained that he did not engage in any form of racist behaviour, describing the accusations as unfounded and damaging to his reputation.

He expressed frustration over what he considers a lack of concrete proof supporting the claims against him.

The young forward also questioned the basis of UEFA’s decision, suggesting that the punishment was handed down without a thorough investigation.

According to him, the situation has had a significant emotional and professional impact, given the seriousness of racism allegations in modern football.

On the other hand, Vinícius Júnior, who has been vocal in the fight against racism in football, has consistently called for stricter measures to address such incidents.

The Brazilian star has previously been subjected to racist abuse in several matches, making him a central figure in ongoing campaigns against discrimination in the sport.

Observers say the dispute highlights the complexity of handling racism allegations, particularly when evidence is contested.

They note that governing bodies like UEFA face increasing pressure to take decisive action while also ensuring fairness and due process.

The case has sparked debate within the football community, with fans and analysts divided over the claims and the disciplinary response.

Some argue that zero tolerance for racism must be upheld at all times, even as others call for more transparent investigative procedures.

Football authorities across Europe have intensified efforts to combat racism, including stricter sanctions and awareness campaigns.

However, incidents and disputes continue to emerge, raising questions about enforcement and accountability.

As the situation develops, attention remains on whether further reviews or appeals may be pursued by the parties involved.

The outcome could have broader implications for how similar cases are handled in the future.

The controversy adds to the ongoing global conversation about racism in sports and the need for both justice and fairness in disciplinary processes.
