Ranieri extends Leicester deal; as Moyes raids Man United
Claudio Ranieri has signed a contract extension with Leicester City to stay on as their manager until 2020.
It was also gathered that Ranieri’s salary doubled due to the new deal, with the former Chelsea boss now being paid over $3.9 million per season.
Ranieri, 64, masterminded an incredible Premier League title win from the Foxes last season which was their first top-flight title in their 132-year history.
The much-traveled Italian coach has found a place in the hearts of soccer fans across the globe due to the exploits of his team last season.
His friendly demeanor and hilarious catchphrases are adored by all.
Speaking about his new contract, the Italian tactician revealed his delight.
“From the moment I talked to the owners about their vision for Leicester City, I knew it was something I wanted to be part of for a long time.
“The energy that exists at this club – from the owners and the staff, to the players and supporters – is something very special,” Ranieri said.
“I am very happy and proud that I will be part of it for years to come.
“Last season, that spirit and our hard work helped us to achieve something magical.
“If we can continue to work hard, maintain our passion and continue to fight with all our hearts, I am sure we can continue to be successful together,” he added.
Ranieri has only lost N’Golo Kante from this title-winning squad and the Foxes boss has a UEFA Champions League campaign to look forward.
Leicester has never competed in the UCL before.
There’s plenty of excitement around the King Power Stadium at the moment.
However, Ranieri is still adamant that the goal for this season is to survive in the Premier League by getting 40 points on the board as soon as possible.
Presently, there are speculations that at the end of his tenure at Leicester, or before that, a statue of the Italian will be erected in the Midlands city.
What he achieved in his first season of his second spell back in the Premier League stunned everyone.
Let’s see what he can do over the next four years with the Foxes.
MOYES RAIDS MANCHESTER UNITED
In the meantime, new Sunderland manager David Moyes has made a raid on his former club Manchester United.
Moyes returned to former club to sign two of the club’s promising youngsters just days before the Premier League kicks off.
Paddy McNair and Donald Love, both 21, have signed for the northeast club on a four-year deal after Moyes took over from Sam Allardyce at the Stadium of Light.
The pair are believed to have cost Sunderland a combined total of £5.5 million ($7.1 million) after impressing under Louis van Gaal last season.
Moyes has also been linked with a move for Adnan Januzaj, who is reported to be unsettled under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Defender Papy Djilobodji has already been added to the Sunderland squad, after Moyes signed the center-back from Chelsea for £8 million ($10.3 million) last week.
