Renovation of Lekan Salami Stadium cost over N5b — Makinde’s aide
Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that the renovation of Lekan Salami Stadium Complex will cost over N5 billion.
Mr. Adisa disclosed this in a statement on Thursday saying that other facilities will be built apart from the water-logged, roof-leaking main bowl.
Other facilities expected to be in the stadium are the gymnasium and indoor sports hall, a tennis court as well as the luxury apartments.
It could be recalled that a downpour had caused the newly refurbished pitch to be water-logged during the game against a Slovenian club.
Videos also surfaced online of part of the stadium’s roof leaking while the game was on.
The governor’s aide alleged that some misguided opposition elements wanted to rubbish the stadium project.
He said: “Some critics have attempted to blow the cost of fixing the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba out of proportion, especially in view of the water that logged on sections of the pitch due to heavy rain.
“Let it be placed on record that the main bowl of the stadium was only the first phase of the entire project which comes in phases.
“There is the main bowl, the gymnasium, and indoor sports hall for a variety of sporting activities, a world-class Tennis court as well as luxury apartments which will be given out on an annual subscription.
“Besides, the pitch as seen on Wednesday is a work in progress, because the contractor has not handed over the project to the state government.”
