LAGOS, NIGERIA — The Lagos State Government has urged consumers to report online vendors who deliver goods different from what they ordered. The government said consumers should report such vendors to its consumer protection agency.
The call was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem. She spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos.
The Warning
Ambrose-Medebem said the government has received complaints from consumers about online vendors. She said some vendors deliver substandard or different products.
She said the government will not tolerate such practices. She urged consumers to report any vendor who engages in fraudulent activities.
“Consumers have rights. If you order a product and you receive something different, report the vendor to the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency,” she said.
Consumer Protection
The government said it is committed to protecting consumers. It said it has strengthened its consumer protection framework.
The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has a mandate to investigate complaints and sanction erring vendors.
“We will not allow anyone to exploit consumers. We will ensure that vendors comply with the law,” the Commissioner said.
