Lawmakers in the House of Representatives went into a shouting match on Wednesday as tensions escalated ahead of the proposed debate on the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State by president Bola Tinubu.

Before the plenary session started, some lawmakers including Blessing Amadi, representing Port Harcourt II, and Marie Ebikake, representing Brass/Nembe federal constituency in Bayelsa, were seen in a heated argument, while some lawmakers attempted to douse the situation.

The two female lawmakers engaged in a shouting match over the constitutionality of the president’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Rivers following the prolonged political crisis in the oil rich state.

The president also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the state assembly for six months.

Tinubu also nominated a former Chief Of Naval Staff, Vice-admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), to administer the state.
