The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced an indefinite nationwide strike set to begin on Friday, November 1, 2025.
This decision was made following a five-hour National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday and comes after the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government over unresolved welfare and work-related grievances.
NARD President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, stated in a Sunday release that the strike became inevitable due to the government’s failure to address key demands.
These include a 200% increase in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), full implementation of allowances proposed since July 2022, immediate recruitment of clinical staff, and the removal of administrative bottlenecks delaying the replacement of exiting doctors.
The association has outlined directives for monitoring the strike and ensuring compliance across all centres.
Centre presidents and general secretaries have been instructed to hold emergency congress meetings to inform members of the resolutions.
Suleiman also accused certain actors within and outside government of plotting against resident doctors, vowing that such exploitative actions would be resisted.
He urged members to use the days leading up to the strike to properly hand over patients, engage with community and religious leaders, and educate the public on the reasons behind the industrial action.
NARD emphasized that the strike aims to address long-standing issues affecting doctors’ welfare and the healthcare system at large.
