Over four people have been killed and several others seriously injured in a deadly attack by suspected armed herders on Anwule community in Oglewu, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attacks, which started on Monday morning and continued into Tuesday, have left many residents missing and sparked widespread panic.
The criminal elements, reportedly roaming the community for several days, stormed the village armed with knives and firearms, targeting residents and causing widespread fear.
Diaspora Digital Media understand that women and children are trekking long distances without food or water, seeking help that is not forthcoming as they flee their homes to neighboring communities.
Meanwhile, the government has deployed security operatives to the area after the Chairman of Ohimini LGA, Gabriel Adole, reported the incident to the state government and security agencies.
Residents are appealing to the government and security agencies to save them from the marauders, who they claim want to destroy their harvests and take over their community with their cattle.
The situation highlights the ongoing conflict between farmers and herders in Benue State and other parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where competition over land and grazing routes frequently turns deadly.
