The political crisis in Rivers State deepened on Monday as the State House of Assembly served a misconduct notice to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports that his deputy, Ngozi Odu, was also included in the notice, marking another significant escalation in the state’s ongoing political turmoil.

This development is the latest in a series of conflicts that have plagued Rivers State’s governance and political stability.

The crisis originated in October 2023 when Governor Fubara had a political fallout with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, reportedly sought to maintain political dominance over Rivers State.

By December 2023, tensions escalated as lawmakers loyal to Wike attempted to impeach Governor Fubara from office.

President Bola Tinubu intervened, facilitating a peace agreement that temporarily halted the impeachment move.

Despite this truce, the rift persisted, with political maneuvering continuing behind the scenes.

In January 2024, lawmakers aligned with Wike intensified efforts to undermine Governor Fubara’s administration.

By February, the political crisis worsened as key government officials loyal to the governor faced attempts to remove them from office.

This deepened suspicions that the legislature was working towards another impeachment attempt against the governor.

On March 17, 2025, the State House of Assembly officially served the misconduct notice against Fubara and his deputy.

The specific allegations were not immediately disclosed, but political analysts viewed the move as part of a larger power struggle.

Many believe the Assembly seeks to weaken Governor Fubara’s influence and reassert legislative control over the state government.

The notice has sparked reactions from political stakeholders, with some calling for another intervention by the presidency.

Supporters of Governor Fubara argue that the allegations are politically motivated and designed to destabilize his administration.

They urge the judiciary and the federal government to uphold democratic principles and ensure fairness in handling the situation.

The crisis continues to generate concerns about the state’s political future and governance stability.

Observers are closely monitoring how the confrontation between the executive and legislature will unfold in the coming weeks.
