Rivers Police probe assault on LG Administrator

The Rivers State Police Commissioner has swiftly responded to reports of violence against Ahoada East Administrator, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor.
Consequently, officials linked to the attack, including the Chief Security Officer and Chief of Staff, have been summoned for questioning.
Authorities confirmed that over 30 assailants, led by the Administrator’s aides, stormed the council secretariat on June 20.
Shockingly, they physically assaulted Iheanachor, stole his belongings, and forced him to sign a resignation letter.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson Grace Iringe–Koko labeled the act as criminal and unacceptable.
Following the incident, Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju visited the scene alongside other security heads.
Additionally, he ordered all suspects to report immediately or face severe penalties.
Consequently, the police have vowed to ensure justice prevails in this disturbing case.
The attack occurred after a resignation letter, allegedly signed by Iheanachor, circulated online.
However, a viral video later showed him being beaten and coerced into signing documents.
Therefore, this incident has heightened political tensions in Rivers State.
Notably, Iheanachor was appointed by Sole Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas after Governor Fubara’s suspension.
Moreover, the state remains under emergency rule due to oil facility attacks.
Consequently, this assault raises concerns about escalating instability.
Commissioner Adepoju has reassured the public of the police’s commitment to peace.
Furthermore, he urged residents to remain calm while investigations proceed.
Ultimately, the Command promises transparency and calls for public cooperation.
This incident highlights the urgent need to protect public officials and restore political stability.
