A woman has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
The incident occurred on NTA Road around 7am on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
The gunmen who were riding on a motorcycle according to report, attempted to rob the woman of her belongings in her handbag as she stood by the roadside.
The woman resisted their demands which prompted the criminal elements to shoot her before escaping from the scene.
While confirming the incident, DSP Sunday Abutu, spokesman for the Ekiti State Police Command, described the incident as a robbery gone wrong.
He disclosed that the victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, had a sum of forty thousand, two hundred and eighty naira (N40,280) in her possession, which was discovered in her bag.
The police image maker added that the deceased woman’s body has been transported to the morgue, while law enforcement authorities have initiated a manhunt to arrest the perpetrators responsible for this senseless act of violence.
