Russia has evacuated an additional 198 personnel from the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran, as security concerns grow following ongoing conflict in the region.

The evacuations were carried out by Rosatom, which has been steadily withdrawing staff since the outbreak of the Iran war in late February.

According to Russian reports, the latest evacuation had already been planned before the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that a staff member at the facility was killed by shrapnel from a projectile. The agency also reported damage to a building at the site caused by shockwaves and debris.

Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev described the situation around the plant as approaching a “worst-case scenario,” highlighting growing risks to personnel and infrastructure. The deceased worker was identified as an Iranian national.

Likhachev added that Vladimir Putin has been fully briefed on the situation as concerns mount over the safety of nuclear facilities in conflict zones.

The Bushehr plant, Iran’s only operational nuclear power station, has become a focal point of international concern, with fears that continued instability could pose serious environmental and security risks beyond the region.
