War casualties

Ukraine’s military efforts have indeed taken a significant toll on Russian forces.

According to recent reports, Russian casualties are nearing 1 million.

A joint investigation by Mediazona and BBC Russian service has identified 111,387 Russian military personnel killed in Ukraine between February 24, 2022, and June 6, 2025.

This number includes 28,200 volunteers, 17,400 recruited prisoners, and nearly 12,300 mobilized soldiers.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces estimates that Russia has suffered approximately 1,026,440 personnel losses since the invasion began.

This number includes both human losses and destroyed equipment.

Russia’s casualty rate has been steadily increasing, with nearly 200,000 Russian troops killed or wounded since January 2025, according to Ukrainian defense officials.

A study suggests that Russia will likely surpass 1 million casualties in its war on Ukraine this summer, reflecting the staggering human toll of President Vladimir Putin’s assault.

These numbers indicate the intense and ongoing nature of the conflict, with significant losses on both sides.

However, the exact number of casualties can be difficult to determine due to the destruction and chaos caused by the war
