Scholes blasts Garnacho’s choices despite Manchester United’s big win

Manchester United advanced to the UEFA Europa League final after a commanding 4-1 second-leg victory over Spain’s Athletic Club.
The English giants secured a 7-1 aggregate win in the semi-final tie, setting up a high-stakes final clash against fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite the win, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes voiced his displeasure with the performance of Alejandro Garnacho.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Scholes, who served as a pundit on TNT Sports, highlighted Garnacho’s poor decision-making in key moments.
The 19-year-old Argentine winger was presented with a golden opportunity in the 43rd minute to equalise after Mikel Jauregizar had given Athletic Club the lead.
However, instead of using his speed to bypass the goalkeeper, Garnacho attempted a chipped finish that sailed wide of the post.
Scholes was unimpressed by the choice, commenting, “I have never seen Garnacho score a goal like this, he is not the player with that kind of guile.”
He added, “With the pace he has got, he should just go around the keeper.”
The United legend stressed that while Garnacho often gets into threatening positions, he frequently fails to make the right final decisions.
Garnacho’s display was marked by inconsistency despite showing flashes of promise during the 63 minutes he spent on the pitch.
According to statistical outlet Sofascore, he completed only one of his three attempted dribbles.
He also made 18 accurate passes out of 20 and provided one key pass.
The young winger won two out of four ground duels but failed to convert the biggest chance presented to him.
United came into the second leg with a commanding 3-0 lead, having comfortably beaten a 10-man Athletic Club in the first leg.
Bruno Fernandes was instrumental in the opening leg, scoring from the penalty spot after Dani Vivian was shown a red card in the 35th minute.
Casemiro then doubled the lead in the 40th minute, before Fernandes added a second to his tally just before halftime.
In the second leg at Old Trafford, Mikel Jauregizar gave the Spanish visitors a momentary lifeline by opening the scoring in the 31st minute.
However, Manchester United responded with authority.
Mason Mount equalised in the 72nd minute with a stunning strike.
Casemiro continued his impressive run by netting in the 79th minute.
Rasmus Højlund added another in the 85th, while Mount sealed the emphatic result with a second goal in stoppage time.
Ruben Amorim’s side will now look ahead to the final, where they will face Tottenham, who overcame Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt 5-1 on aggregate in their own semi-final.
Tottenham are managed by Ange Postecoglou, who has revitalised the North London club with an attacking style of play.
This Europa League final promises to be a gripping all-English affair, with both teams hoping to salvage silverware after turbulent domestic seasons.
For Manchester United, the tournament offers a chance to crown a campaign filled with ups and downs under Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag mid-season.
While the Red Devils will be buoyed by their dominant semi-final display, questions remain over the consistency and maturity of young stars like Garnacho as they prepare for the final showdown.
