Scholes urges Amorim to copy Arsenal’s rise: “I’d trade United’s season for theirs”

Paul Scholes has advised new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim to study Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal transformation.

Scholes believes Amorim can benefit from replicating Arteta’s long-term vision at Manchester United, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

Despite United reaching the Europa League final, Scholes says he would prefer Arsenal’s current position without a trophy.

Manchester United are currently 15th in the Premier League, enduring one of their worst league campaigns in recent years.

Their only remaining hope for redemption is the Europa League final against Tottenham on May 21.

In contrast, Arsenal are pushing for second place in the league and recently reached the Champions League quarter-finals.

They were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain, losing 3–1 on aggregate over two legs.

Now, Arsenal face Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield, where they’ll give Jurgen Klopp’s side a guard of honour.

Arsenal’s title hopes are over, but they remain ahead of City, Newcastle, and Chelsea in the standings.

Scholes remains impressed with Arsenal’s consistency and upward trajectory under Arteta’s leadership.

“Mikel Arteta has done a brilliant job since arriving at Arsenal,” Scholes wrote in his TNT Sports column.

“He could finish second for the third consecutive year, and Amorim can learn a lot from that.”

Arteta has built a competitive team that regularly challenges in Europe and the Premier League.

Although he hasn’t added to his 2020 FA Cup win, his progress is undeniable.

Scholes sees Arsenal’s journey as the ideal model for Manchester United’s rebuilding project.

“Imagine if Amorim gets United to second and into a Champions League semi-final in three or four years.”

“I’d swap United’s season, even with a Europa League win, for Arsenal’s campaign. All day long,” Scholes insisted.

Critics say Arsenal lack silverware, but Scholes believes they are closer to winning something major.

“Arsenal just need to cross the finish line,” he added. “They’re very close to a big breakthrough.”

“People say they bottle it, but I’d rather United be close enough to have that chance.”

Arsenal’s position highlights how far United have fallen from title contention and Champions League competitiveness.

Scholes believes Amorim should treat Arsenal’s development as a roadmap for building at Old Trafford.

“It wouldn’t be a bad example,” he said. “Amorim should study what Arteta has done carefully.”

United’s history, according to Scholes, proves they can go further once the right foundations are in place.

“If United can reach Champions League semi-finals, their pedigree will help them eventually win it,” he said.

“Arsenal haven’t consistently proven they can win the biggest trophies, but United have that legacy,” he concluded.

While Arsenal’s season may end trophyless, Scholes admires their steady rise and sees hope in Amorim’s potential.
