PVC Initiative for Good Governance Diaspora (PIGGD), has reacted to the Supreme Court judgement that granted local councils in Nigeria financial autonomy.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the UK based convener/president of the group, Comrade Wisdom Opara, aka Chukwuemeziem Ekete, said the apex court judgment is in order with democracy.
According to Opara, the ruling will bring “true dividend of democracy to the grassroots”
Comrade Wisdom Opara is an outspoken supporter of good governance in Africa. His group priorities giving strategic political support for sustenance of democracy and good governance across Africa.
The organisation thanked President Bola Tinubu for his constant commitment towards sustainable democracy in Nigeria.
“The President has demonstrated that he wants the country to be in shape of strong democracy. He values constitutional order and follows it. Local Governments are important for grassroot development and involvement in chain of leadership will help bring government closer to the people”
“He has been a good leader, PIGGD have been monitoring him closely and urge Nigerians to support his administration in the fight to restore Nigeria, and restoring constitutional shape of the country is a sign of a new beginning”
The statement also noted that with the ruling, development, infrastructural boost and the stability of local governments is now easier.
PIGGD which has been fighting to ensure security is restored in the country, also noted that the ruling would bring about security stability.
The pro-democracy group added that local governments’ financial autonomy will help to combat insecurity across the country
Finally, Opara called on Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu and support his Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that Mr Tinubu is moving in the right direction and showing good purpose with his policies.
