Security: Commissioner Ugorji meets with Imo motorcycle operators

Pursuant to the ministry’s mandate regarding security and safety concerns over Commercial Motorcycle Operators (Okada) in Imo State, the Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, Dr. Ugorji Ugorji, held a stakeholders’ meeting today with the Chairman (Comrade Peter Udogu) and the Secretary (Mr. Izunna Ogbonna) of the Motorcycle Operators Association in Imo State.
The meeting also included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Safety, Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe.
The Ministry and the association worked out a tentative understanding regarding the ministry’s security data capturing, registration and monitoring of Okada operators, their security training, their identification and identifying head and body gears, and the generation of IGR for the Imo State government therein.
Comrade Udogu commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for the foresight of setting up the Ministry of Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs.
“I am delighted at how easy and quick it is to meet face to face with a Commissioner,” he said.
He added that his association is looking forward to assisting the state with it’s security concerns and with IGR generation in a manner that serves both the state’s interests and the legitimate interests of members of the association.
The ministry and the association also reached tentative agreement on the enforcement of the regulations that would be established.
Dr. Ugorji assured the association that the ministry will be upright and treat members of the association with respect and dignity, and provide necessary security backing for a taskforce for enforcement purposes.
A comprehensive work plan that is mutually developed will be presented to Governor Hope Uzodimma and the state’s Executive Council.
