A Niger State-based security expert has raised concerns about Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and threats to national unity.
He is also the Zonal Chairman of the Human Rights Advocacy Civil Society of Nigeria, Abdullahi Jabi, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.
Jabi criticized Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State for making inflammatory comments.
He stated that some interest groups and individuals are encouraging disintegration and instability across the country.
Jabi specifically referenced a live interview Governor Mohammed.
In that interview, Mohammed allegedly invited “global Fulani” to come and settle in Nigeria.
Jabi said such statements are reckless and capable of inciting further unrest and ethnic tension.
“If anyone should be arrested for promoting terrorism, it is Bala Mohammed,” Jabi said.
He called on the Federal Government to arrest and prosecute the governor over his comments.
According to Jabi, such statements could worsen insecurity and deepen existing divisions among Nigeria’s ethnic groups.
He noted that Fulani make up only about three percent of Nigeria’s population.
They also constitute about twenty percent of the entire African population, Jabi added.
He questioned the logic behind inviting Fulani worldwide to settle in Nigeria.
“What exactly does he mean by that statement?” Jabi asked during the interview.
Jabi warned that such an invitation could lead to serious land and identity conflicts.
He stressed that the issue is not just about terrorism but also about land and resources.
Jabi explained that violent conflicts often stem from unresolved land disputes.
These disputes sometimes escalate into kidnappings, displacement, and other forms of insecurity.
He noted that ransom paid to kidnappers is often used to buy arms and ammunition.
Such funding allows criminal groups to continue terrorizing the public, he explained.
Jabi criticized the Federal Government’s handling of the country’s security challenges.
He called for stronger, more strategic responses from authorities and stakeholders.
Public figures should be held accountable for inciting comments, Jabi emphasized.
He urged security agencies to investigate and act on such inflammatory statements.
According to him, national unity must not be taken for granted.
Jabi also called on civil society to play a greater role in promoting peace.
He encouraged collaboration between communities and security agencies.
The public should be educated on the dangers of divisive rhetoric, he added.
Jabi reaffirmed his commitment to human rights and national peace.
He said leadership comes with responsibility, especially in a multi-ethnic society like Nigeria.
No one, he said, should be above the law in matters of national security.
His remarks have sparked debate among citizens and political stakeholders nationwide.
While some agree with him, others believe the governor’s statement was misunderstood.
Regardless, Jabi’s statements reflect the growing anxiety over Nigeria’s security and unity.
