Senate Panel accuses Jimoh Ibrahim of diversion of N35 billion aviation intervention fund
Senate Panel Investigating diversion Aviation intervention on Monday revealed that sum of N35 billion which Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim took from interventions
funds on behalf of Air Nigeria was diverted to Ghana.
The Vice Chairman of Aviation Committee, who is also the Deputy Leader of the Senate made the shocking revelation during investigative hearing on diversion of N300 billion for intervention fund for power and Aviation.
Out of the N300 billion intervention only N120 billion was released as aviation intervention fund and Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim collected N35 billion from it.
Confirming the diversion of funds incident, former Director of Finance and Accounts of Air Nigeria, Mr John Nnoromrevealed that Mr Jimoh Ibrahim was working with the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
He explained that prior to getting the funds, he brought in the Bank as part of Directors of Air Nigeria and surprisingly the very day that the sum of N35 billion hit accounts of Air Nigeria current account domiciled with UBA, that same day, it went out.
“Distinguished Senators, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) knows what they were doing with the missing N35 billion Aviation intervention funds.”,Nnorom submitted.
The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi while responding to questions revealed that though the fund was released in the name of Aviation, it did not passed through the Ministry of Aviation and there was no record to show.
“Distinguished Committee Chairmen, members, my job here is to watch proceedings because I know nothing about about it and there is no record showing how the funds was disbursed”, Amaechi noted.
