Senator Akpoti denies viral audio targeting Akpabio
DDM News

Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has denied any involvement in a viral audio and video purportedly implicating her in a scandal targeting Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the controversial audio clip, which has been widely circulated online, allegedly features a voice resembling Akpoti-Uduaghan’s.
The speaker in the recording is heard accusing Senate President Akpabio of blackmailing President Bola Tinubu in a bid to have her imprisoned.
In a personally signed statement issued from Abuja, Akpoti-Uduaghan categorically denied ever making such comments or having any conversation with a journalist related to the matter.
She dismissed the recordings as fake, emphasizing that they were deliberately fabricated to mislead the public and damage her reputation.
According to her, the voice in the viral material was not hers, but a digitally manipulated clone created to incite political tension.
She described the audio and video clips as maliciously doctored content designed to tarnish her image and destabilize the National Assembly.
The senator claimed that the circulation of such materials was part of a calculated attempt to manipulate public opinion and discredit political opponents.
Akpoti-Uduaghan urged Nigerians to disregard the content entirely, warning that it represented a dangerous trend of misinformation and character assassination in the country’s political discourse.
She further called on security agencies and digital forensic experts to trace the origin of the manipulated recordings and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In her statement, she assured the public of her continued commitment to truth, justice, and democratic principles, despite the political challenges she currently faces.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended earlier following a legal and political dispute surrounding her 2023 senatorial election.
Her denial comes at a time when digital misinformation and politically motivated propaganda have become increasingly common in Nigeria’s democratic environment.
Observers note that the incident underscores growing concerns about the weaponization of technology and artificial intelligence in political smear campaigns.
As public trust continues to be tested by viral misinformation, many are calling for stricter regulations on the use of AI-generated content in political communication.
