Enugu North, Nigeria – Senator Dr. Okey Ezea, the Distinguished Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, has released a comprehensive scorecard to mark his second year in office.
The report highlights key legislative actions, infrastructure projects, healthcare interventions, educational investments, and community empowerment programs executed between 2023 and 2025.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) obtained the detailed breakdown from the Senator’s Media Team, led by Hon. Ogbobe Chidera Stanley, in a release dated June 13, 2025.
Elected in 2023 under the Labour Party (LP), Senator Ezea has emerged as one of the most proactive lawmakers from the South-East, known for fearless advocacy, purposeful representation, and grassroots-driven development.
Legislative Advocacy Focused on Security, Equity, and Inclusion
In his legislative capacity, Senator Ezea raised a motion on worsening insecurity in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, which prompted coordinated federal interventions.
He also took a bold stance on the exclusion of Enugu North from federal ministerial appointments since 1999, sparking national debate and policy reconsideration.
To address structural imbalance, he sponsored the bill for the Creation of Adada State. He also sponsored a bill to establish a Federal University of Agriculture in Uzo-Uwani, which has passed its first reading.
Ezea fiercely opposed the demolition of Ogige Nsukka Market and resisted covert efforts to impose RUGA settlements in Uzo-Uwani and Isi-Uzo. He also rejected exploitative taxation and economic policies that burden the poor.
Infrastructure Development and Project Completion Across Enugu North
Senator Ezea’s two-year record includes a series of infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and public amenities.
These projects include:
- Construction of the Itchi–Unadu–Ulor–Agu Road in Igbo-Eze South
- Rehabilitation of Old Anglican Road, Nsukka
- Renovation of classroom blocks at Nsukka High School
- Asphalt laying on the Nkpologu–Uvuru–Ukpata and Abbi–Nrobo roads
- Completion of three abandoned rural roads in Uzo-Uwani
He also facilitated ₦2.7 billion in the 2024 supplementary budget for the Ninth Mile–Abor–Ukehe–Ekwegbe–Opi Junction Road. In addition, he pushed for federal approval for the reconstruction of the Makurdi–Obollo–Ninth Mile Expressway.
Solar-powered boreholes were installed across all LGAs, with Nsukka Town Hall as one of the key beneficiaries. Streetlights were deployed in locations including UNN, Eke Ozii, Obollo Afor, Opi Junction, Timber Shed, and Mechanic Village.
Health and Education: Cornerstones of Social Investment
The senator sponsored inter-school quiz competitions to promote academic excellence and critical thinking among youths.
On healthcare, he organized free medical outreach programs targeting underserved populations across all six LGAs in the district.
A major milestone was securing federal approval for the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Aku, Igbo-Etiti LGA. He allocated ₦100 million from his 2024 constituency fund, and construction is currently ongoing.
Agricultural Support and Food Security
To reduce hunger and stimulate food production, Senator Ezea delivered annual truckloads of rice to Nsukka, Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs.
He also distributed fertilizers to smallholder farmers annually and introduced high-yield plantain suckers and coconut seedlings to local agricultural communities.
A modern cassava processing facility was established in Adani, Uzo-Uwani, to boost agro-industrial development.
Empowerment and Youth Development
Women across the district received empowerment kits such as industrial sewing machines and grinding equipment.
Ezea also trained 150 youths in soap and detergent production. Beneficiaries received raw materials, startup equipment, and seed capital to launch small-scale enterprises.
Transparency, Accountability, and Ethical Governance
Throughout his tenure, Senator Ezea has maintained full transparency in project implementation and a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, inducement, or contract manipulation.
He has earned praise for delivering projects based on need and merit, not political favoritism.
Looking Ahead: Projects in the 2025 Budget
Senator Ezea’s development agenda continues with several projects currently being implemented under the 2025 Appropriation Act:
- Construction of Old Anglican Road, Odenigbo, Nsukka
- Construction of Nguru–Federal Government College Lejja Road
- Expansion of solar street lighting to more communities
- Rural farm access roads across the zone
- Completion of the Itchi–Unadu–Alor-Agu Road
- Renovation at St. Teresa’s College, Nsukka
- Re-asphalting of Odenigbo Roundabout to Beach Junction
- Rural electrification and provision of school furniture
- Transformer distribution to unconnected communities
- Continued work on the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Aku
- Ongoing free medical missions in all LGAs
