Yobe, Nigeria – A shocking case of domestic violence has rocked Yobe State after a man allegedly killed his wife with a machete before fleeing.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the tragic incident, identifying the suspect as 55-year-old Hamidu Ali from Babangida in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the fatal attack occurred on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at approximately 11 a.m. in Koriyel Village.

The suspect reportedly used a machete to strike his 40-year-old wife to death for reasons yet unknown, then fled the scene to an undisclosed location.

“Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect,” SP Abdulkarim said in the official police statement.

The gruesome attack has sent shockwaves through the community, as residents struggle to understand the motive behind such a violent act.

In a separate but related development, police have also arrested two men over an alleged murder and vandalism incident in Fika Local Government Area.

The suspects, 25-year-old Musa Sule and 30-year-old Muntari Suleman, were apprehended by officers of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters on June 27 at about 5 p.m.

According to investigators, the suspects brutally murdered a victim following an argument over the alleged theft of a cellphone and power bank.

“The suspects have confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing at the State CID for subsequent prosecution,” the police spokesperson said.

A third suspect remains on the run, as law enforcement intensifies its search.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned both incidents and issued a stern warning to residents against taking the law into their own hands.

“We appeal to the good people of Yobe State to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts and support law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order,” CP Ado stated.

He emphasized the importance of channeling grievances through appropriate legal avenues rather than resorting to violence or mob justice.

“These acts of barbarism and revenge killings threaten the safety and security of our communities,” he warned.

Residents of both Tarmuwa and Fika LGAs have been urged to assist the police with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects.

Authorities are also calling on community leaders to intensify campaigns against gender-based violence and jungle justice.

The incidents have reignited concerns over rising cases of domestic abuse and extrajudicial killings in parts of northern Nigeria.

As investigations continue, the police command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that offenders face the full weight of the law.
