Simplifying Nnamdi Kanu’s legal self-harm

It is obvious that the IPOB has designed and is executing a well-funded mass media campaign in an attempt to discredit the Nigerian judiciary with regards to the ongoing trial of its leaders, Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore is apparently a major asset hired by the IPOB to spread falsehood and attempt to incite the people against the judiciary.

I will therefore attempt to, in the simplest and shortest format, illustrate the implication of Nnamdi Kanu’s decision not to enter a defence in his trial and why it amounts to a direct admission of guilt by him.

The Court is an impartial arbiter between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Nnamdi Kanu, hence, the court is not there to explain to Nnamdi Kanu why he is in court. It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to do so, and they have done so by opening and presenting their case, calling their witnesses and closing their case.

It is the principle of law that an accused remains innocent until proven guilty, and it is the place of the accuser to present its case, in line with the law and legal processes to prove the innocence of the accused, and the place of the accused to dispel the allegations and convince the judge that they are innocent.

Nnamdi Kanu’s claim that the law under which he is being prosecuted had been repealed would have been best proven during his defence, but he forfeited his right to put up that defence, hence, admitting, invariably, that he has no defence to the allegations leveled against him by the prosecution.

His legal team led by a former Attorney-general of the Federation and one of the most brilliant legal minds in the country would have tried to rescue him from the legal quagmire he put himself into, maybe, through legal technicalities, but he refused to give them that chance and rather sacked them.

Nigeria has been prosecuting terrorists before now and jailing them, so, it makes no sense to argue that Nigeria does not have laws prohibiting terrorism and terrorist acts.

Kanu’s supporters have been sending some laughable reports about Kanu questioning the Judge. The Judge has been too lenient on Kanu, because Kanu has no right to question the Judge, but Justice James Omotosho still indulges him and even advises him, which isn’t proper. But the man is trying to give him every opportunity possible to prove his innocence.

Nnamdi Kanu would have had the opportunity to ask his questions to the prosecution and puncture their arguments and logics if he had opened his defence, but he relinquished that right, apparently, because he knows, and his lawyers must have told him that the prosecution’s case is solid and almost impossible to be defeated.

His resort to rabble rousing and histrionics are all meant to incite the terrorists he put in our bushes to start attacking innocent people in the Southeast again, but fortunately, our security agents have done a wonderful job of decimating those criminals.

Nnamdi Kanu has simply admitted that he has no defence to put up against the allegations of the Federal Government, so he makes the Judge’s work easier.

During judgement, the Judge will read out the provisions of the Constitution that justify whatever verdict he is going to reach on his case. So, IPOB members and sympathizers should not be too quick to cry, because if at the end, the Judge finds that the Prosecution built its case on non-existent law, he will say it, and Nnamdi Kanu will be let free. The good thing about this is that our Constitution is Written, so, anyone who is not lazy can quickly research whatever Sections and sub-sections that the Judge would quote and confirm if it exists or not.

For now, let justice be done, for Heavens will not fall.
