A Nigerian soldier abducted by terrorists in late July has made a daring escape and regained his freedom in Katsina State.
The soldier, identified as a Lance Corporal attached to Operation FANSAN YANMA, was held captive in the notorious Kogo/Munhaye forest, a stronghold for criminal elements terrorizing communities along the Zamfara–Katsina axis.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the soldier was kidnapped on July 27 along the Gusau–Yankara road.
After weeks in captivity, he managed to escape from the forest and was discovered along the Faskari–Maigora road on Thursday.
Troops on routine patrol rescued him and immediately evacuated him for urgent medical care.
Security sources reported that the soldier appeared physically weak and emotionally traumatized, but military medics have since stabilized his condition.
