Nigerian troops have rejected a bribe of ₦13.7 million offered by terrorists during an operation along the Jos-Sanga Road in Plateau State.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) made this known on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Abuja during a press briefing.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, said the troops of Operation Safe Haven received a distress call before intercepting the terrorists.

According to Kangye, two suspected terrorists attempted to offer the bribe in exchange for their release. The soldiers declined the money and arrested the suspects instead.

The military recovered weapons, ammunition, a vehicle, and ₦13.7 million in cash. All recovered items remain in custody as investigations continue.

Troops also carried out offensive operations in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Wase South, Riyom, and Jos East Local Government Areas of Plateau. In Kaduna State, similar raids were conducted in Kaura and Sanga LGAs.

During these operations, soldiers killed several extremists, arrested 12 suspects, and rescued three kidnapped victims. Recovered items included motorcycles, guns, and other combat supplies.

Kangye further revealed that during routine patrols, troops apprehended seven suspected militias across Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs in Plateau, and Wamba and Sanga LGAs in Nasarawa and Kaduna.

In another operation on July 9, troops intercepted a vehicle riddled with bullet holes along Jos-Sanga Road.

The occupants again attempted to offer money to the soldiers, but they refused. Two suspects were arrested at the scene.

Kangye praised the professionalism and integrity of the troops, describing their actions as a testament to the military’s growing discipline.

He called on Nigerians to remain alert and continue reporting suspicious movements to security agencies.

“The military is working hard to end insecurity. But we need the support of citizens and the media to succeed,” Kangye said.

He assured that operations would continue, and updates would be shared in a transparent manner.
