Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has approved N6.154 billion as counterpart funding for the Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grant covering 2022, 2023, and 2024. Consequently, this decision will significantly improve basic education standards statewide. Moreover, the released funds will enable the state to access an additional N12.308 billion from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). Therefore, the combined resources will address critical infrastructure gaps in primary and junior secondary schools.

During a press briefing in Awka, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), confirmed the approval. Specifically, she explained that the funds will finance classroom construction, renovation of dilapidated structures, and provision of furniture. Additionally, the projects will include water and sanitation facilities to enhance hygiene in schools. Furthermore, perimeter fencing, ICT equipment, and sports facilities will be prioritized to ensure safety and modern learning tools.

Dr. Nwadinobi praised Governor Soludo for his unwavering commitment to education. She emphasized that these interventions will create a more conducive learning environment. Likewise, stakeholders have lauded the governor’s efforts, expressing optimism about improved academic performance. Ultimately, this initiative reflects the administration’s dedication to educational development as a key driver of progress.

In summary, the N6.154 billion approval marks a pivotal step toward transforming basic education in Anambra State. By addressing infrastructure deficits and enhancing learning conditions, the government aims to boost student outcomes. As a result, this investment will foster long-term socio-economic benefits for the state.
