Soludo inaugurates 17-man committee set up to restore equity, peace in Anambra

The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has inaugurated the seventeen-man committee he constituted to restore truth, justice and peace in the state with the former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Anslem Odinkalu as the Chairman and Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu as the Secretary.

Prof. Odinkalu disclosed this in a public announcement titled “17-Person Truth, Justice and Peace Commission” he signed himself and made available to News Band on Thursday.

The committee has as its mandate the task to identify the remote and immediate causes of the agitations, restiveness, violence, and struggle in the South East region, document victims and circumstances of death, brutality and incarceration, identify stakeholders and groups in the agitation and conflicts, as well as their roles, capabilities and demands, and to address the issues arising therefrom.

Odinkalu has, meanwhile, invited concerned persons to contribute to the exercise by submitting memoranda to the committee to help it achieve its mandate.

The statement reads:

“This is to bring to the notice of the General Public, that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR constituted a 17- Person Truth, Justice and Peace Committee on 6th April, 2022.

1. The 17-Person Commission was inaugurated on 23rd June, 2022 by the Executive Governor of Anambra State.

2. The Committee comprising of distinguished Membership is headed by Prof. Chidi Anslem Odinkalu, with the Terms of Reference;

i. To identify the remote and immediate causes of the agitations, restiveness, violence, and struggle in the South East since 1999.

ii. Document victims/circumstances of death, brutality and incarceration.

iii. Identify stakeholders and groups who have played critical roles in the agitation and conflicts, their roles, capabilities and demands.

iv. Address any other issue(s) that may be germane to unravelling the extent of the crises and charting the road map to the future.

v. Make recommendations for sustainable peace and security in Anambra State/Southeast.

3. The Committee therefore invites memoranda from concerned persons. The Memoranda should reach the Secretariat c/o Mrs. Chika Obinyelaku, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Government House, Awka, on or before close of work on 31st August 2022, or tjpc.anambragov@gmail.com

4. The Memos shall be sealed and Addressed to the Secretary, Anambra State Truth, Justice and Peace Committee and shall be in twenty (20) copies and submitted to the same Office.
