Son Heung-min’s brace propelled Tottenham to a crucial 3-2 victory at Hoffenheim, securing a vital step toward a top-eight finish in the Europa League.

Despite missing 14 players, Spurs, under Ange Postecoglou, entered the match with confidence after five defeats in their last eight games.

Tottenham made an explosive start, with James Maddison scoring just three minutes in. Son quickly doubled their lead, showcasing the team’s offensive prowess.

Although Hoffenheim managed to score, Son sealed his second goal with 13 minutes remaining, helping Spurs withstand a tense finale to secure three important points.

Postecoglou faced limited options but decided to give Brandon Austin only his second start due to Antonin Kinsky’s ineligibility.

Despite a bench filled with young prospects, Tottenham’s experienced players shone on the pitch, making their mark early in the game.

After following concussion protocols for 12 days, Rodrigo Bentancur played a pivotal role in the opening goal.

He passed to Pedro Porro, who delivered a perfect ball to Maddison, who expertly finished to put Spurs ahead.

This strong start set the tone for the match, although they squandered further chances.

Spurs should have extended their lead after 14 minutes when Porro missed a great opportunity.

Son then sent another shot over the bar before finally scoring in the 22nd minute.

After a fortunate handball incident, Maddison intercepted a loose ball and assisted Son, who scored with a deflected shot.

Hoffenheim responded with pressure, but Austin made crucial saves against Tom Bischof and Adam Hlozek.

As the first half progressed, Lucas Bergvall’s header was denied by Baumann, and Radu Dragusin blocked Finn Becker’s shot, showcasing Tottenham’s defensive vulnerabilities.

The hosts continued to press, with Andrej Kramaric hitting the crossbar from a fine cross by Bischof.

Postecoglou introduced 17-year-old Mikey Moore, replacing the recently fit Richarlison, to add fresh energy to the squad.

In the 62nd minute, Hoffenheim earned a penalty when Austin caught Max Moerstedt. However, after a lengthy VAR review, the decision was overturned, much to Austin’s relief. This moment of fortune did not deter Hoffenheim, who reduced the deficit with 22 minutes left.

Caught on the counter-attack, Tottenham allowed Kramaric to assist David Jurasek, who set up Anton Stach for a goal.

Just when it appeared the match was destined for a draw, an error by Nsoki allowed Spurs to regain possession.

Moore seized the opportunity to assist Son, leading to his second goal of the game, changing the outcome dramatically.

Though David Mokwa’s 88th-minute header set the stage for a tense finish, Tottenham managed to cling to their lead.

This victory relieved some pressure from Postecoglou and significantly enhanced their aspirations for qualifying for the Europa League.
