The Publisher of Sahara Reporters newspapers and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Mr. Omoyele Sowore, has remembered the later ace journalist, Dele Giwa, who was killed with a letter bomb on October 19, 1986.
Mr. Sowore, also the Convener of #RevolutionNow, made the recollection of his gruesome death on his “X” (formerly Twitter) handle, @YeleSowore on Thursday.
He wrote:
“Exactly today (October 19, 1986) 37 years ago, military head of state, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (notoriously known as “IBB) sent a letter bomb to the Lagos residence of topmost journalist, Dele Giwa, the bomb ripped through his lower abdomen and killed him.

“Till date his killers were never brought to justice. Rest in Power, Dele Giwa. May your spirit continue torment Babangida and others who conspired to kill you in your prime.”

According to his biography on Wikipedia, Dele Giwa, a Nigerian journalist, editor and founder of Newswatch magazine, was born Sumonu Oladele “Baines” Giwa.
