Nigerian musician Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, is facing potential legal action after reportedly ignoring an invitation from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The agency’s interest was piqued by a controversial video posted by the artist in May 2025, where he claimed to have engaged in sexual activity with a 15 year old girl in a hotel.

This revelation sparked widespread outrage and led to calls for his investigation.

In the video, Speed Darlington later asserted that his claim was a publicity stunt aimed at promoting his new song and sourcing for fame.

He further criticized social justice activists, accusing them of hypocrisy and interference, and suggested that his scrutiny was due to regional biases within Nigeria.

These statements have intensified public backlash, with many demanding accountability and sincerity.

NAPTIP, which is responsible for combating human trafficking and child exploitation, reportedly issued an invitation to Speed Darlington for questioning regarding his statements.

However, he has allegedly failed to respond to the agency’s summons.

Legal experts noted that ignoring such an invitation could lead to further legal consequences, including potential charges or enforcement actions.

This incident adds to a series of controversies involving Speed Darlington and his way of life.

Speed Darlington’s fight with Burna Boy

In late 2024, he was arrested on allegations of defamation and cyberstalking fellow artist Burna Boy.

Despite a court order for his release, he remained in detention, leading to his filing of a ₦300 million lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police for unlawful detention and alleged mistreatment.

He was eventually granted bail in January 2025.

As of now, there has been no official statement from NAPTIP regarding the next steps in this matter.

Observers are closely monitoring the situation to see how the agency will proceed in ensuring compliance and addressing the allegations raised by Speed Darlington’s video.
