Super Eagles Kicks-off AFCON Campaign: Equalises Equatorial Guinea in First Half

on

In the much-anticipated African Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener, the Super Eagles of Nigeria faced Equatorial Guinea at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe in Ivory Coast today.

Despite numerous opportunities to take the lead, Nigeria struggled with poor finishing, setting the stage for an intense battle for their 4th AFCON title.

Equatorial Guinea seized the moment in the 36th minute, capitalizing on the Super Eagles’ missed chances. Iban Salvador stunned the Nigerian team, securing a surprising lead with a goal.

However, the Super Eagles swiftly responded, with African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, equalizing just a minute later. Osimhen’s powerful header, triggered by a well-placed cross from Ademola Lookman, brought Nigeria back into contention. The match remains finely poised as both teams strive for success in the AFCON 2023 tournament.
