(DDM) – Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received high praise from former President Goodluck Jonathan following their remarkable comeback victory against host nation Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Jonathan took to his official X handle on Sunday to celebrate the Falcons’ 3-2 triumph, calling it a beacon of hope and an inspiration to all Nigerians.

The Super Falcons stunned the Moroccan side by recovering from a 2-0 deficit to clinch their 10th WAFCON title, more than any other nation on the continent.

Jonathan described their performance as courageous, determined, and emblematic of Nigeria’s limitless potential in the face of adversity.

“Congratulations @NGSuper_Falcons on winning the #TotalEnergiesWAFCON2024 for a record 10th time (#MissionX),” Jonathan wrote in his message.

He hailed the players for their fighting spirit and ability to turn the game around despite the hostile home crowd in Casablanca.

According to Jonathan, the win was more than just a sporting victory, it was a moral lesson in resilience and national unity.

“Your victory is a lesson of hope,” he stated, adding that Nigeria can overcome challenges when united in purpose, faith, and perseverance.

The former president noted that this historic win reflects what Nigeria can achieve when determination meets teamwork and national pride.

He also highlighted the symbolic nature of the comeback, saying it mirrors the struggles and aspirations of Nigerians in their daily lives.

Jonathan praised the Super Falcons for completing their mission, dubbed #MissionX, which saw them lift the prestigious title for the tenth time, a feat no other African country has achieved in women’s football.

He further applauded the team’s coaching crew and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for their role in guiding the team to glory.

“Thank you for making us proud. Congratulations on your achievement of #MissionX, the first in our continent’s history,” Jonathan concluded.

The victory sparked widespread celebrations across Nigeria, with fans flooding social media to share their joy and national pride.

Many observers see the Falcons’ achievement as a unifying moment in a time when the country is searching for stories of collective success.

With this win, the Super Falcons have reaffirmed their dominance in African women’s football and inspired a new generation of female athletes.

As the continent applauds their success, the Super Falcons have not only raised a trophy, they have raised the hopes of millions.
