Super falcons return home to hero’s welcome after WAFCON victory

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have landed in Abuja following their triumphant conquest of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the Nigerian women’s national team touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 2:26 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025.

The champions arrived aboard a chartered flight to loud cheers from fans, journalists, and top sports officials who had gathered to welcome them.

Scenes of jubilation erupted as team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, stepped off the aircraft holding the WAFCON trophy high above her head.

Her proud gesture drew thunderous applause and chants from the crowd, underscoring the emotional significance of the team’s latest achievement.

The Super Falcons defeated rivals South Africa 2–0 in the final to clinch their 10th WAFCON title, further cementing their dominance on the African continent.

Nigeria remains the most successful team in WAFCON history, with the 2025 victory extending their record tally.

The team’s success in Morocco was characterised by skillful performances, tactical discipline, and unwavering determination.

Officials of the Federal Ministry of Sports and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were present at the airport to receive the champions.

Dignitaries, supporters, and former players also joined in the emotional homecoming celebration.

In her brief remarks, Captain Ajibade dedicated the victory to Nigerian girls and women, encouraging them to believe in their dreams.

She thanked the fans and the Nigerian government for their unwavering support throughout the tournament.

Sources within the Ministry of Sports hinted that a presidential reception may be held in Abuja in the coming days.

There are also plans underway for a nationwide victory parade to allow Nigerians in other states celebrate with the team.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to formally congratulate the Super Falcons and reward them for their historic feat.

Football enthusiasts across the country have taken to social media to praise the team’s resilience and patriotism.

The 2025 WAFCON win is being seen as a major morale booster ahead of the next FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Coach Justin Madugu, who led the team to victory, credited the win to discipline, teamwork, and a shared hunger for glory.

Nigerians from all walks of life continue to express their pride in the Super Falcons, describing the team as national treasures.
