Gombe, Nigeria – February 23, 2025 – The Gombe State Police Command recently arrested a suspected impersonator and illicit substance dealer.
Additionally, authorities recovered a substantial amount of cannabis during the operation.
At a press conference today, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, announced these developments on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
He emphasized the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.
DSP Abdullahi revealed that the suspect was apprehended after the Gombe State Police Command executed a meticulously planned operation.
As a result, this operation demonstrated the police’s commitment to enhancing public safety in the region.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers swiftly intercepted an individual posing as a government official while illegally trading Indian hemp.
During the arrest, law enforcement uncovered 495 kilograms of dried leaves strongly suspected to be cannabis sativa, or Indian hemp. This significant seizure marks a crucial advancement in the region’s fight against illegal drug activities effectively.
DSP Abdullahi stated, “This arrest represents a major breakthrough in our efforts to eliminate criminal elements and the illegal drug trade.” Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of such operations in promoting community safety and well-being.
Additionally, the suspect not only distributed illicit substances but also impersonated a government official, thereby deceiving the public and evading detection. This behavior underscores the complexity of tackling crime and the need for vigilant law enforcement efforts.
Such actions undermine trust and pose serious risks to society.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect is linked to a larger network involved in cannabis trafficking across the region.
Authorities are actively working to trace his accomplices and dismantle the syndicate.
DSP Abdullahi stressed the dangers of illicit drugs, emphasizing their role in fueling crime and threatening public health.
Efforts to address this issue remain a top priority.
He assured residents of Gombe State that the police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
“The Commissioner of Police directed a thorough investigation to ensure all individuals connected to this illegal operation face justice,” he stated.
In addition, he urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The authorities recovered the illicit substances and promptly sent them to the appropriate laboratory for further analysis, ensuring accountability.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody and will face charges in court once investigations conclude. DSP Abdullahi finished the press conference by reaffirming the Gombe State Police Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward crime and its commitment to maintaining law and order.
Citizens should actively support law enforcement by sharing timely information that can help prevent criminal activities in their communities.
By doing so, they contribute to a safer environment and empower authorities to address potential threats effectively.
The police command also reminded individuals that impersonation and drug trafficking are serious offenses under Nigerian law, carrying severe penalties.
The Gombe State Police Command has urged residents to work collaboratively with security agencies in fostering a drug-free and peaceful community.
