Gunmen have assassinated a guest identified as Gideon Ebukwe at Ok Winners Hotel, Igbosoro, Igode, in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The spokesperson of Ogun State police command, Omolola Odutola in a statement, said that the attack occurred on Monday, December 2, 2024.
Ebukwe, who was lodging at the hotel, was reportedly shot dead while attempting to escape from the attackers.
NewsBand gathered that Ebukwe made concerted effort to evade the gunmen by breaking into the ceiling of the hotel, but unfortunately, the assailants caught up with him.
He was shot dead and his valuables disposed off.
“He said that a group of five unidentified armed men arrived at Ok Winners Hotel in Igbosoro, and attacked a guest, Gideon Ebukwe, whose address was currently unknown”, the police spokesperson said.
“At the time of the attack, the hotel staff, mostly women, were locked in another room, while the assailants proceeded directly to the guest’s room.
“In an attempt to escape, the guest broke through the ceiling but was chased and shot dead, and his belongings were taken
“Upon receiving the information, the divisional police officer led detectives to the scene. No arrest has been made, and the body was transported to Jas Medical Mortuary in Ogijo,” she added.
However, the police image maker revealed that an investigation had commenced to unravel the nature of the crime, if it was cult related.
She said that the case would be transferred to the Police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a more discreet investigation.
