Taraba police arrest several for illegal possessing of arms

A 19-year-old, as well as several scores, has been arrested by for illegal possession of firearms and dangerous weapons.

The suspects were arrested by a special squad engaged in mop up exercise of firearms in the state.

The exercise is organised by the Taraba State Police Command.

The state Commissioner of Police, Shaba Alkali, while briefing journalists in his office stated that the special squad arrested the suspects.

He said that suspects involved in several crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling as well as unlawful possession of firearms were also arrested.

The Police Commissioner also spoke on the command’s achievement in fighting crime.

He explained that suspects currently in Police custody for various offences would be charged to court.

He said that the success rate of crime fighting in the state has increased following the introduction of the special squad in collaboration with the vigilante group and the public.

He went ahead to read the riot act to criminal elements still operating in the state.

He said further that maintaining the tempo in ridding the state of criminal elements requires the combined efforts of security agents and the public.

In the meantime, Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state has signed the state 2016 appropriation bill into law.

The bill promises to give priority to Agriculture and improve the state income as well as create jobs for the unemployed youths from the state.

The governor signed the bill at the executive chambers of the government house in Jalingo.

He also restated his administration’s commitments to ensure that the people enjoy the benefits of democracy despite the nation’s dwindling economy.

He said the state was heavily endowed with nature’s gift and agricultural opportunities which if properly funded would generate massive employments and income for the state. 

“We have a vast land that we can turn into fortunes such that our youths will be gainfully employed.

“Now that the House has passed the 2016 budget, we shall focus on the projected areas that would help us rescue the state for good”, he had said.

 It will be recalled that the governor on 23rd of December 2015 presented an appropriation bill of 26,081,789,535.00 to the State House of Assembly.

The House after series of deliberations and consultations with executive jack up the total projection up to 100,874,913,855.00 from the amount earlier presented by the governor.
