A social media influencer is facing intense backlash after admitting she altered a photo by placing her own face onto another woman’s body an act that has sparked a wider conversation about authenticity, race, and the use of artificial intelligence online.
The controversy began when content creator Lauren Blake Boultier, who has built a large following across platforms, shared an image suggesting she attended a major tennis event in Miami. However, online users quickly noticed inconsistencies in the background and setting.
It was soon discovered that the original image belonged to Tatiana Elizabeth, a Black model who had posted the photo in 2024 after attending the US Open in New York. The edited version appeared nearly identical same outfit, pose, and location except that Boultier’s face had been digitally placed over Elizabeth’s.
Following the backlash, Boultier issued a public statement explaining that the post was created with the help of a third-party AI content agency. She acknowledged the situation, took responsibility for the content on her page, and said she had removed the image and reached out privately to apologize.
She also promised to be more involved in reviewing content produced on her behalf moving forward, emphasizing the importance of respect and proper representation.
Despite the apology, Elizabeth has made it clear she is not convinced. Speaking publicly, she questioned the sincerity of Boultier’s response, suggesting it felt more like damage control than genuine accountability.
Elizabeth also highlighted the deeper issue behind the incident, pointing out that Black women’s work and image are often imitated or used without proper recognition. For her, the original photo was not just a casual post it represented a meaningful moment in her career, one she earned through years of effort in the industry.
While she discouraged online harassment directed at Boultier, Elizabeth maintained that the backlash reflects the seriousness of the situation, especially given attempts to shift responsibility onto AI tools and external teams.
The incident has fueled ongoing discussions about the growing use of artificial intelligence in content creation. As more influencers rely on digital editing and AI-generated media, concerns are rising about originality, consent, and the ethical boundaries of online creativity.
