TCN restores electricity supply after grid collapse

Share this:

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the full restoration of the national grid after a system collapse earlier today caused a nationwide blackout.

Ndidi Mba, the spokesperson of TCN on Saturday, attributed the recent disruption in the national grid to an explosion at a transformer within the Jebba transmission substation.

She said engineers acted promptly by activating the system’s protective mechanisms, which opened the busbars to contain the explosion.

This quick response, she added, prevented a fire outbreak and further damage to nearby equipment.

The company explained that the operation of the protective system caused the temporary disturbance across the grid.

TCN further disclosed that its engineers at the Jebba substation successfully isolated the faulty current transformer and reconfigured the busbar arrangement.

However, with these corrective measures in place, electricity supply was restored to the station and other affected parts of the grid.
