A 16-year-old boy has accidentally shot and killed his younger sister while handling a firearm owned by their father in Delta State.

SP Bright Edafe, the spokesman of the command confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement.

He said the father, who identified himself as a hunter, admitted that his teenage son often played with his hunting rifle.

While sharing the heartbreaking news, Edafe wrote: “I pray and hope I don’t have to bring this kind of report to you again because it’s so sad. The father claimed he is a hunter; his 16-year-old son, who always plays with his dad’s gun, on this fateful day, was playing with the gun, shot and killed his younger sister.”

Edafe interviewed the father of the suspect, who owned the gun and also the boy who shot his sister.

The father said he was not aware that his son used to play with the gun. The son corroborated this, stating that he played with the gun after his father had gone out.

On the fateful day, the father said he went to church, leaving the boy and his sister in the house.

The boy said he was playing with the gun as usual when it went off, and his eight-year-old sister was coincidentally passing through the corridor at the time and was hit by the bullet.
