Teenager arrested for stabbing father’s mistress to death

Police authorities in Kwara State have arrested a 17-year-old boy simply identified as Malik for allegedly stabbing his father’s mistress, Mrs. Falilat Yusuf to death in the Gaa Akanbi area of Ilorin.

The unfortunate incident, Diaspora Digital Media understand, occurred around 2pm on Friday, June 13, 2025, in the Danialu neighbourhood.

Mrs. Yusuf, popularly known as Iya Ganiyat, was reportedly attacked and stabbed several times in the neck. She was found lying in a pool of blood inside her residence.

The spokesman of the command in Kwara, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the suspect’s arrest on Tuesday, June 17, stating that police officers intervened just in time to prevent a mob from lynching him.

“The suspect is currently in custody, and an investigation is ongoing,” she said.

Witnesses reported that Malik had been previously barred from entering the compound due to accusations of theft and prior conflicts with the deceased.

He lived in a separate apartment.

Teslim, the victim’s son, narrated how he saw Malik near their home making strange hand gestures.

When confronted, Malik fled. Upon entering the house, Teslim discovered his mother’s lifeless body.

According to him, the suspect later returned to the scene after changing clothes, but bloodstains were still visible on his shoes. Neighbours immediately apprehended him and handed him over to the police.

Eyewitnesses also claimed that Malik made incriminating statements, admitting to disputes with the victim, though the cause of their quarrels remains uncertain.

Mrs. Falilat Yusuf was buried over the weekend in Ilorin according to Islamic customs.
